August 12, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the SMDY1…S series of AC line-rated ceramic disc safety capacitors, combining a 300 VAC Y1 rating and 1500 VDC capability in a surface-mount package.
Designed for EMI and RFI suppression in industrial equipment, the new capacitors require up to 40% less board space than Vishay’s previous-generation devices.
The Y1 rating allows the capacitors to bridge double or reinforced insulation. They can also be used in DC networks operating at up to 1500 VDC in accordance with Annex H of the applicable IEC standard.
The SMDY1…S series complies with IEC 60384-14 and carries UL, CSA, VDE, ENEC and CQC certifications.
Its surface-mount construction supports automated pick-and-place assembly and reflow soldering. This removes the manual insertion and soldering processes normally required for through-hole ceramic disc capacitors.
The devices provide insulation resistance of at least 10,000 MΩ and operate from −55°C to +125°C. Vishay performs 100% production testing covering AC voltage, capacitance, dissipation factor, insulation resistance and final visual inspection.
The capacitors use a copper- and silver-plated ceramic disc encapsulated in UL 94 V-0 flame-resistant epoxy resin. They are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.
The series is available in an A case size covering capacitance values from 10 pF to 680 pF and a B case size covering 1000 pF to 1500 pF.
Target applications include industrial motor drives, welding equipment, inverters, uninterruptible power supplies, rail power supplies, HVAC systems, LED drivers, switch-mode power supplies, AC/DC converters, home appliances and automotive charging stations.
Samples and production quantities are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks.
