October 27, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Murata has developed the NCU01 series of NTC thermistors in an 008004-inch size measuring 0.25 × 0.125 mm. The devices reduce mounting area by approximately 60% compared with the company’s previous smallest 01005-inch products, which measure 0.4 × 0.2 mm.
Despite the smaller dimensions, the series maintains resistance and B-constant tolerances of ±1%, matching the earlier products. These specifications support consistency in resistance and resistance-versus-temperature characteristics across devices.
The smaller footprint gives designers more flexibility to position temperature sensing close to heat-generating components. In densely populated boards and modules, limited space can force thermistors farther from the source, introducing temperature differences and delaying detection of rapid changes. The NCU01 can fit into tighter locations to improve local thermal monitoring.
Murata said the development combines its ceramic materials technology with precision processing and optimization of the component structure and manufacturing process. Target applications include smartphone and wearable-device circuit boards, IC packages and system-in-package modules.
Sample shipments are planned to begin in October 2026, followed by mass production during 2027. The lineup will expand progressively, starting with 100 kΩ and 10 kΩ resistance values.
