Vishay Launches CHEP Thin Film Resistors With Up to 2.8 W Power and 50 GHz Operation

September 7, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the new Vishay Sfernice CHEP series of thin film chip resistors in compact 0402 and 0603 case sizes for high-power and high-frequency applications.

Built on an aluminum nitride (AlN) substrate, the CHEP series offers standard power ratings of 1.2 W in the 0402 size and 1.8 W in the 0603 size. When mounted according to datasheet guidelines, the ratings increase to 1.8 W and 2.8 W, respectively, enabling higher power density without increasing board space.

For high-frequency applications, 0402 devices can operate up to 50 GHz when mounted as flip-chip components, while wraparound active face-up mounting supports frequencies up to 20 GHz. Devices in the 0603 size support operation up to 40 GHz.

The series is designed with low internal parasitics, with LC values as low as 1 × 10⁻²⁴, helping reduce phase shift and noise while maintaining consistent impedance at high frequencies.

Target applications include LEO satellites, base station terminals, 5G and 6G networks, remote radio units, antennas and other RF infrastructure, as well as drones, satellite payloads, telemetry systems, data links and phased-array radar.

The resistors are available from 20 Ω to 120 Ω, with tolerances down to ±1% and a standard temperature coefficient of ±100 ppm/°C. A ±50 ppm/°C option is available on request. Operating temperature ranges from -55 °C to +155 °C.

Samples and production quantities of the CHEP series are available now, with lead times of approximately 16 weeks.
