Samsung Electro-Mechanics adds KRW 295 billion AI server MLCC order

July 24, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Samsung Electro-Mechanics has secured a KRW 295.1 billion, approximately $200 million, contract to supply multilayer ceramic capacitors for artificial intelligence servers and data center systems.

The agreement was signed on July 22 and disclosed the following day. The supply period will run from January 1 through December 31, 2027. Its value represents 2.6% of Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ consolidated revenue of KRW 11.31 trillion in 2025.

The customer’s identity was withheld under confidentiality terms. Samsung Electro-Mechanics said the agreement reflects recognition of its MLCC design technology, product reliability under high-temperature and high-voltage conditions, and ability to manage large-volume production and quality control.

MLCCs store and release electrical energy, filter power noise and stabilize voltage around processors and other semiconductor devices. Rising power consumption and rapid current changes in AI accelerators are increasing the number of compact, high-capacitance components required across server power-delivery networks.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has said AI servers may use more than ten times as many MLCCs as conventional servers. Products designed for these systems must also maintain stable operation at temperatures above 105°C and voltages reaching 100V, creating higher technical and qualification requirements than those for standard consumer applications.

The latest agreement is Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ second major AI server MLCC order within one month. In June, the company announced an approximately KRW 450 billion supply contract with a global technology customer. The two MLCC agreements have a combined value of about KRW 745 billion.

In May, Samsung Electro-Mechanics also signed an approximately KRW 1.5 trillion silicon capacitor contract covering 2027 and 2028. Silicon capacitors are placed inside advanced packages containing AI GPUs and high-bandwidth memory to provide low-impedance power stabilization close to the semiconductor dies.

The company has announced three major supply contracts with a combined value of approximately KRW 2.3061 trillion in 2026. That total includes both MLCC and silicon capacitor agreements and should not be interpreted as MLCC orders alone.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics says it holds more than 40% of the global AI server MLCC market. It is discussing additional mid- and long-term supply arrangements with multiple global customers for 2028 and beyond as it increases the contribution of AI infrastructure and automotive products to its MLCC portfolio.

The agreements indicate strengthening demand for high-capacitance, high-temperature and high-voltage MLCCs used in AI systems. They do not necessarily signal a shortage across the wider MLCC market, where demand for standard products serving smartphones, personal computers and other consumer devices may follow a different cycle.
