Allegro integrates wheel-speed decoding into A81415 automotive safety PMIC

July 24, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Allegro MicroSystems has introduced the A81415 automotive power management IC, combining a wheel-speed sensor interface, multi-rail power management and functional safety features in a single device for electromechanical braking systems.

Allegro describes the A81415 as the industry’s first ASIL-D safety PMIC with an integrated wheel-speed sensor interface. The device was developed with ASIL D capability and is qualified to AEC-Q100 Grade 0 for operation in safety-critical automotive environments.

The on-chip wheel-speed sensor interface can decode standard two-level, pulse-width modulation, three-level AK and high-resolution AK protocols. Decoded wheel-speed information is transferred to the vehicle’s microcontroller through an SPI connection.

Handling the sensor physical layer inside the PMIC removes the need for a separate wheel-speed decoder IC and associated analog circuitry. It can also shorten the signal path in the braking control loop and reduce the processing resources required from the MCU.

The power architecture includes a synchronous buck-boost preregulator and five low-dropout linear regulators. Its single-inductor design requires no external power switches or diodes, allowing the device to supply multiple control and sensing circuits within an electromechanical brake module.

Allegro estimates that the integration can eliminate as many as nine external components, reduce semiconductor bill-of-materials costs by up to $4 per vehicle and free more than 50% of the associated PCB area. Actual savings will depend on the power and sensor interface architecture being replaced.

The A81415 supports an operating input range of 3.2V to 36V and a maximum input voltage of 40V. Its five internal linear regulators include foldback short-circuit protection, while dual watchdogs, rail monitoring, fault handling and SPI diagnostics support the functional safety architecture.

For 12V vehicle systems, the A81415 can operate as the primary power-management device in the braking module. It can also be combined with Allegro’s APM81815 preregulator and 48V gate drivers to support migration to 48V electromechanical braking corner modules.

Low-noise power rails are designed to supply Allegro XtremeSense TMR angle sensors. This enables wheel-speed sensing, motor commutation feedback and clamping-force measurement to be integrated more closely within the brake caliper electronics.

The A81415 is currently listed as a pre-release product, with engineering samples available upon request. Allegro has not disclosed a production schedule, final ordering variants or pricing.
