September 15, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Renesas Electronics has expanded its RZ/G Series with the RZ/G3L and RZ/G3SE 64-bit general-purpose microprocessors for industrial HMI, IoT edge, IoT gateway and home gateway applications. The two devices are pin-compatible, allowing developers to reuse a common PCB design across different product configurations.

The RZ/G3L integrates a GPU for 3D graphics rendering together with an H.264 video codec, targeting applications such as smart retail terminals and medical HMI systems that require richer graphics and video capabilities. The RZ/G3SE is designed for IoT devices with more basic display requirements, including EV chargers and industrial gateways.

Both MPUs support CPU configurations with up to four Arm Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 1.2 GHz, together with a 200 MHz Cortex-M33 coprocessor. Renesas' third-generation RZ/G power management architecture reduces deep standby power to the 1 mW level while retaining the Linux system in memory for fast wake-up.

High-speed interfaces include PCIe, TSN-capable Gigabit Ethernet and USB. PCIe can be used to connect 5G and Wi-Fi 6 modules as well as external AI accelerators, while TSN Ethernet supports low-latency and deterministic communications for industrial networking.

The devices are available in dual-core and quad-core configurations and in 14 mm 400-pin LFBGA and 17 mm 368-pin LFBGA packages. Additional features include ECC for on-chip memory and external DDR interfaces, Secure Boot, Arm TrustZone, tamper detection and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.

Renesas is also supporting the new MPUs with GUI tools, operating systems, software and system-on-module solutions, along with reference designs including an RZ/G3L-based Mode 3 AC EV Charger Wallbox and an RZ/G3SE-based AI-enabled smart home security hub.

The RZ/G3L and RZ/G3SE are available now.
