September 14, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Murata Manufacturing has notified customers that it will discontinue selected MLCC part numbers across nine product series as part of a broader portfolio optimization program, asking customers with long-term requirements to transition to replacement products or arrange final purchases.

The affected products include selected part numbers from the GRM, GRJ, GRT, GXM, GXT, GCM, GCJ, GCG and ZRA series, covering consumer electronics, industrial equipment and automotive applications. Murata said the action does not represent a complete withdrawal from these product families, but focuses on older products, general-purpose specifications and items already scheduled for replacement.

According to the customer notice, the deadline for customer responses and replacement planning is December 31, 2027. The final order date is March 31, 2028, while final shipments are scheduled for March 31, 2029. Customers requiring continued supply are being asked to secure quantities needed for the remaining lifecycle of affected products.

The affected portfolio includes general-purpose MLCCs as well as products used in industrial and automotive systems. Some families feature soft terminations or other structures designed for applications requiring higher mechanical or environmental reliability.

Murata said the portfolio review is intended to improve MLCC supply stability and customer support while reallocating manufacturing capacity toward other products.

As the selected mature MLCC part numbers are phased out, customers will need to qualify replacements and, in some cases, alternative suppliers. Taiwanese passive component manufacturers including Yageo and Walsin Technology are among the companies expected by market observers to compete for replacement demand, although the actual transfer of orders will depend on specifications, customer qualification and timing.

The extended phase-out schedule gives industrial and automotive customers more than two years to complete replacement qualification before final shipments end in March 2029.
