November 6, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) plans to invest NT$123.7 billion to expand advanced packaging and testing capacity in southern Taiwan, China, as demand grows from artificial intelligence and high performance computing applications. The investment plan was approved by the InvesTaiwan office on November 5.
ASE will add smart production lines at its sites in the Nanzih Technology Industrial Park and the Kaohsiung and Tainan campuses of the Southern Taiwan Science Park. The expansion is expected to create 3,553 local jobs.
The company plans to use AI and big data analytics to coordinate automated equipment, different types of production machinery and microsystem packaging processes. The upgrades are intended to improve manufacturing efficiency and yields. ASE will also install solar generation equipment as part of its emissions reduction efforts.
A separate semiconductor materials investment approved on the same day will see Wonik Quartz Taiwan spend about NT$2.34 billion to expand its factory in Tongluo, Miaoli County. The project is intended to relieve capacity constraints and is expected to add 176 local jobs.
Wonik Quartz Taiwan supplies ultra high purity quartz ware, diffusion tubes and cleaning components for semiconductor front end manufacturing, alongside machining and maintenance services. Its expanded facility will use robotic systems, supply chain management software and digital production traceability, with energy monitoring to support more efficient operations.
