Panasonic Hukou Plant Fire Raises High End CCL Supply Concerns

November 5, 2026 / SemiMedia / — A fire and explosions at Panasonic’s multilayer materials plant in Hukou, Hsinchu County, on November 4 have raised concerns over supplies of high performance copper clad laminates used in servers and networking equipment.

Five employees were injured. On November 5, local fire authorities said both employees previously reported missing had been found dead, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency. The cause of the fire and the extent of property damage remain under investigation.

The plant is a production site for Panasonic’s MEGTRON circuit board materials. Industry estimates put its share of the company’s global MEGTRON capacity at around 20 percent, but the damage to individual product lines and the duration of any production interruption have not been established.

Supply chain sources estimate the site could represent roughly 4 percent of the relevant global high end laminate market. This is an estimate of potential exposure, rather than confirmed lost output.

The accident comes amid strong demand for low loss materials for AI servers, data centers and high speed switches. A prolonged interruption could increase pressure on customer inventories and alternative sourcing.

Other laminate makers may receive inquiries, but replacement supply depends on available capacity and customer qualification. The immediate focus is on Panasonic’s delivery arrangements and the extent of the plant’s production disruption.
