November 6, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Skyworks plans to consolidate manufacturing facilities and reduce staffing following its merger with Qorvo, management said on its November 3 earnings call. The company has not identified which additional factories could close or disclosed the scale of the workforce reductions.
The combination closed on October 5. Skyworks is targeting at least $500 million in annual cost synergies within 24 to 36 months of closing, with roughly two thirds coming from operating expenses and one third from cost of goods sold. Management said manufacturing savings would take longer to materialize as production sites and technologies are consolidated.
The Hillsboro, Oregon, facility acquired from Qorvo has drawn particular attention because both companies operated gallium arsenide manufacturing capacity. Skyworks also has GaAs capabilities in California and Massachusetts, although it had already announced plans to close its Woburn, Massachusetts, fab by the end of 2027.
Hillsboro traces its origins to TriQuint Semiconductor and has historically employed about 800 people. Qorvo previously transferred GaAs production from Greensboro, North Carolina, to the Oregon site before closing the former facility, making Hillsboro an important part of its manufacturing network.
Skyworks has not announced a decision to close Hillsboro. Business Oregon, the state's economic development agency, said it had received no indication that the plant would shut down. Its future remains uncertain as the combined company reviews overlapping manufacturing operations.
Production transfers involve dedicated equipment, process integration and customer qualification, which can limit how quickly capacity can be consolidated. Skyworks expects about $150 million in operating expense synergies during fiscal 2027, weighted toward the second half, and an annualized synergy run rate of approximately $250 million to $300 million by the end of that fiscal year.
