November 6, 2026 / SemiMedia / — onsemi has canceled plans to invest up to $2 billion in expanding silicon carbide production at its Rožnov pod Radhoštěm site in the Czech Republic. The company and the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade announced the decision on November 6, citing changes in the global SiC market and the project's economics.
First announced in June 2024, the multiyear investment would have expanded the existing site into an integrated production center covering the full SiC manufacturing chain, from crystal growth to finished power semiconductor devices.
Existing silicon and SiC manufacturing at Rožnov will continue unaffected as part of onsemi's global production network. The company said the cancellation was tied to SiC market conditions and did not reflect an assessment of the Czech Republic's investment environment.
onsemi expects to continue investing and hiring at both Rožnov and its Brno development site to support customers in automotive, industrial, AI data center and emerging applications. The announcement did not specify the scale or timing of those future investments.
