Vishay introduces 34 PHE multi-turn absolute position sensor for motion control

July 6, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the Vishay Sfernice 34 PHE, a ready-to-use multi-turn absolute position sensor designed for high accuracy and long-term stability in demanding environments.

The sensor uses non-contacting Hall Effect technology and delivers linearity down to ±1% full stroke, 1° resolution and a lifespan of more than 10 million cycles. It is housed in a 7/8-inch, or 22.2 mm, diameter body.

The 34 PHE supports linear or rotary displacement tracking with a total electrical angle of 3600° across 10 turns. Vishay said the device is available at a 40% lower cost than previous-generation products while maintaining high accuracy and resolution.

The sensor is intended for servo loop motion control systems and other position feedback applications. Target uses include industrial motor and actuator displacement tracking, linear actuators for solar panel tracking, flow control valve positioning, and throttle and pedal position sensing in agricultural machinery, railway equipment and ships.

For harsh environments, the 34 PHE provides IP65-rated sealing and can withstand high-frequency vibration up to 20 g and shock up to 50 g. Integrated reverse-voltage and input overvoltage protections, rated at -14 VDC and +28 VDC respectively, can reduce the need for external protection circuitry.

The device can be configured with single or dual analog ratiometric outputs or digital PWM output signals. In dual-output mode, the two outputs operate as oppositely tracking position sensors, providing built-in fault detection to improve safety, reliability and functional safety support.

An integrated locating peg on the mounting face helps simplify installation and prevent rotation, improving alignment accuracy and long-term stability.

As a “true power on” device, the 34 PHE reports its position immediately after power-up without requiring recalibration, re-homing or initialization routines, even after power loss. Vishay said this can reduce system cost by eliminating the need for battery backup.

The RoHS-compliant sensor operates from a 5 VDC ±10% supply and has typical supply current below 8.5 mA in single-output mode. The recommended load resistance is 1 kΩ for both analog and PWM outputs.

Availability
Samples and production quantities of the 34 PHE are available now, with lead times of approximately 14 weeks.
