Murata’s Ionissimo Ionizer module proven effective to inactivate Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2)

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. announced that the ozone generated by its Ionissimo ionizer module and ozone generator module can inactivate the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).

Murata stated that it commissioned Nara Medical University to research the inactivation effects of ozone gas produced by Murata's Ionissimo ionizer module (MHM306 series and MHM402 series) and ozone generator module (MHM500 series) on the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). The ozone gas generated by the products was proven to be effective in inactivating the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). This confirmation of the Ionizer Module’s effectiveness was conducted using an airtight testing chamber; its effectiveness in an actual usage environment, outside the testing chamber, has not yet been tested.

The research report shows that at least 99.9% of the virus has been confirmed to become inactive after exposure to a concentration of 0.1 ppm (the acceptable ozone concentration specified by the Japan Occupational Hygiene Association) for 120 minutes.

However, the research report also pointed out that the current validity confirmation is carried out in the test room environment using the product, and does not indicate the validity in the actual installation/usage environment.
