July 17, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Micron Technology has signed long-term strategic customer agreements with Qualcomm, HARMAN, Visteon, JOYNEXT, DENSO, Astemo and Hyundai Mobis to support the supply of memory and storage products for next-generation connected and AI-enabled vehicles.
As vehicle architectures become increasingly software-defined, digital cockpits, advanced driver assistance systems, infotainment and connectivity platforms are processing larger volumes of data. Automotive platforms also have longer production lifecycles than most consumer electronics, making predictable component availability and pricing visibility important for production planning and future vehicle investment.
The companies covered by the agreements include semiconductor and automotive computing platform provider Qualcomm, automotive electronics suppliers HARMAN and Visteon, and Tier 1 suppliers JOYNEXT, DENSO, Astemo and Hyundai Mobis. Their systems support digital cockpits, connectivity, infotainment, ADAS and other electronic functions used by global automakers.
“As vehicles become increasingly software-defined, automakers need technology platforms that bring together high-performance compute, connectivity, memory and storage,” Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon said.
Rapid expansion of AI data centers is absorbing more DRAM, NAND and high-bandwidth memory capacity, while memory manufacturers direct investment toward advanced processes and higher-value products. Long-term supply agreements can help automotive customers reduce their exposure to component shortages and price volatility when planning future vehicle platforms.
Micron is the only major U.S.-based DRAM manufacturer and is one of the suppliers of HBM used alongside Nvidia AI processors. Strong AI infrastructure demand has benefited Micron and its main competitors, SK hynix and Samsung Electronics, while increasing competition for memory capacity across data centers, consumer electronics and automotive systems.
Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said in June that the company had completed 16 strategic customer agreements across the data center, consumer and automotive markets. The agreements provide customers with contracted supply assurance while giving Micron greater visibility for manufacturing capacity and technology investments.
Mehrotra expects data center-driven growth to be increasingly complemented by AI-enabled functions in smartphones, high-end PCs, automotive applications and robotics. In vehicles, this trend is expected to increase memory and storage requirements as centralized computing, ADAS and intelligent cockpit platforms become more capable.
