October 2, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Microchip Technology has introduced the PAC1761 and PAC1861 families of 65V digital power monitors for 48V automotive, AI data center, networking, industrial and server power architectures. The devices measure instantaneous voltage, current and power while also accumulating energy-use data over time.
As higher-power systems move toward 48V distribution, power monitors require additional voltage headroom and transient protection. The PAC1761 and PAC1861 support measurement up to 65V and provide up to 75V spike protection for improved survivability in 48V systems.
The devices also include programmable alerts for voltage, current and power excursions, step-limit detection for sudden load changes and configurable accumulated-energy thresholds. These features allow systems to respond to both short-term electrical events and longer-term energy consumption patterns.
The PAC1761 provides 12-bit measurement capability, while the PAC1861 offers 16-bit resolution. Package options include VDFN-8, VDFN-10 and MSOP-10, with automotive-orderable variants also available. Pin-compatible options are intended to reduce redesign and qualification work when customers change devices based on performance, availability or cost requirements.
Target applications include automotive systems, AI and data center servers, networking equipment, industrial electronics, telecom, Power over Ethernet and other 48V power distribution platforms.
Development support includes the EV12R33A evaluation board, a Python command-line interface and software library, a Linux driver and a generic C library with multiple MCU code examples.
The PAC1761 and PAC1861 families are available now. Pricing starts at $0.56 each in 10,000-unit quantities for the PAC1761T-3E/E3 and PAC1861T-1E/3P in MSOP-10 packages, while the EV12R33A evaluation board is priced at $49.00.
