Infineon says humanoid robots may drive future growth

February 25, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Infineon Technologies said on Feb. 18 that humanoid robots could become an important future business area, as the chipmaker looks for new growth engines beyond its traditional markets.

Chief Executive Jochen Hanebeck said emerging robot platforms may generate meaningful revenue over time and could help support the company’s currently pressured margins.

Infineon compared the long-term potential of humanoid robot semiconductors to today’s fast-growing power devices used in AI data centers, suggesting the segment could develop into another strong demand driver for the industry.

The company also sees product overlap that may speed its entry into the market. Many chips it already supplies for automotive driver-assistance systems — including sensors, control devices and power semiconductors — can be adapted for robot motion control and perception systems. This could allow Infineon to expand into humanoid robots without heavy new R&D spending.

The report added that continued development of Tesla’s Optimus platform could mark the start of large-scale humanoid robot production around 2026, with dexterous hands, axial flux motors and lightweight materials seen as key areas to watch.
