CXMT considers second DRAM fab in Beijing

August 3, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Chinese memory-chip manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) is reportedly considering building a second DRAM fab in Beijing and has begun financing discussions with technology-manufacturing investment platforms.

According to people familiar with the matter, the proposed wafer fab would be located in Beijing’s Yizhuang district, where CXMT already operates a DRAM manufacturing facility.

The project remains at an early stage, and its investment scale and production capacity have not yet been determined.

CXMT is seeking at least 60 million yuan in financial support from the Yizhuang development-zone authority and other state-owned technology companies. The financing plan and funding sources could still change.

CXMT currently operates two 12-inch DRAM fabs in Hefei and one 12-inch fab in Beijing, with each facility reportedly capable of producing approximately 100,000 wafers per month.

The company has also been reported to be advancing new manufacturing projects in Shanghai and Hefei. If these facilities enter production, CXMT’s total monthly capacity could exceed 600,000 wafers.

The proposed expansion comes as AI infrastructure investment drives stronger memory demand and tightens global supply.

CXMT recently completed its public listing, with the proceeds expected to support further capacity expansion and technology development.

As the largest DRAM manufacturer in mainland China, CXMT has continued to strengthen its domestic memory production network.

Counterpoint Research data shows that CXMT has become the world’s fourth-largest DRAM supplier, although Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron still account for approximately 90% of the global market combined.

CXMT’s existing Beijing fab is operated by Changxin Jidian, which was established in 2020 and received support from investment platforms connected to the Yizhuang development zone.

Yizhuang is also home to semiconductor companies including SMIC and Naura Technology and is expanding its presence in the robotics and artificial-intelligence industries.
