Micron to exit consumer memory chip market

December 4, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Micron Technology said it will wind down its Crucial consumer memory line as the company reallocates resources to support accelerating demand for advanced DRAM and storage products in AI and data-center markets.

Rising AI workloads reshape memory supply trends

Chief Business Officer Sumit Sadana said the consumer segment is no longer central to Micron’s strategy, noting that large enterprise and cloud customers now drive most of the company’s growth. Prioritizing those accounts, he said, will help strengthen supply stability for high-performance memory used in AI infrastructure.

Hyperscale operators have continued to expand AI server deployments over the past year, sharply lifting industrywide demand for high-bandwidth DRAM and NAND. With AI workloads tightening memory supply across the sector, Micron has increased output for its high-end products to support data-center build-outs.

Crucial phase-out and support commitments

Micron expects sales of Crucial-branded consumer modules to end by late February 2026. Warranty service will continue, and Micron-branded enterprise products will remain available through its global commercial channel.

To ease the transition, Micron said employees affected by the decision will have opportunities to move into open roles within the company.
