Samsung DRAM sales drop by $9 million in Q1 2022

According to reports, affected by weak DRAM prices and other unfavorable factors, Samsung Electronics, the world's largest memory chip maker, continued to decline in DRAM sales in the first quarter of this year, and has declined for two consecutive quarters.

The report cited data from market research firm Omdia that during the first quarter of 2022, Samsung’s DRAM sales were $10.34 billion, a decrease of $9 million from the previous quarter, the second consecutive quarter of decline. In the fourth quarter of 2021, Samsung's DRAM sales fell 9% quarter-on-quarter to $10.5 billion. However, Samsung still ranks first in the global DRAM market, with a market share of 42.7% as of the first quarter of 2022, up 0.8% from the fourth quarter of 2021.

The report pointed out that Samsung's DRAM sales continued to decline mainly due to the cyclical downturn in the DRAM market, the war in Russia and Ukraine, and the disruption of the electronics industry supply chain caused by the city lockdown in China.

The report also pointed out that DRAM prices have been falling steadily recently, falling 9.5% in October last year and 8.1% in January this year.
