September 11, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Infineon Technologies AG has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lingji Innovation Technology, a subsidiary of Ninebot, to develop gallium nitride (GaN)-based inverter systems for light electric vehicles (LEVs). The partnership aims to enhance drivetrain efficiency, reduce system weight, and deliver compact inverter solutions for two-wheeler and shared mobility markets.

Infineon will supply its CoolGaN™ G5 power devices, while Lingji will integrate the components with its own intelligent control algorithms. The joint work will focus on GaN motor drive solutions for 48V to 72V wide-voltage applications, targeting higher power density and compliance with new Chinese standards that encourage lighter vehicle designs.

“Infineon is shaping the future of mobility with GaN,” said Peter Schaefer, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer Automotive at Infineon. “Our solutions enable more compact inverters, reduced weight and faster time-to-market.” Lingji’s General Manager Xu Chao added that the collaboration would deliver next-generation inverters offering improved ride comfort and lower energy consumption.

Industry analysts forecast that the global LEV market could reach $340 billion by 2030, driven by affordability, home charging convenience, and environmental benefits. GaN power semiconductors are also gaining adoption in automotive, industrial and consumer electronics. With 300-millimeter GaN manufacturing and one of the industry’s broadest IP portfolios, Infineon is positioning itself as a leading player in GaN technology.
