Apacer: NAND flash will be in short supply from Q2

March 2, 2022

According to reports, Chia-Kun Chang, president of storage equipment maker Apacer Technology, said the cautious attitude of NAND flash memory suppliers about capacity expansion and the sharp reduction in production at the Kioxia factory will lead to insufficient supply from the second quarter of 2022.

Chia-Kun Chang said that starting in April, the total output of NAND flash memory chips will shrink, which will cause memory supply to fall short of demand in the second quarter. As a result, the industry's total supply in 2022 is expected to grow by 25-30%, down from the previous estimate of 30% growth.

In addition, Chia-Kun Chang said that throughout the first half of 2022, NAND flash prices will face downward pressure. And downstream equipment assemblers and suppliers are expected to accelerate inventory builds in the second half of the year as the shortage of logic chips eases.

Chia-Kun Chang said the company will continue to stock up on chips and is optimistic about market performance in the first quarter of 2022.
