According to local media reports in Austria, Infineon is building a new R&D center in Linz, Austria, which will focus on the development of millimeter-wave radio components. The center is said to have more than doubled the development capabilities of Infineon's millimeter-wave chips in Austria.
This new R&D center is more modern and larger than what is currently used. According to Infineon's plan, by 2020 the R&D center will create 220 new jobs. Together with the 180 employees currently in existence, the total number of employees will reach 400 by the summer of 2020.
The new R&D center will be used primarily for 77 GHz radar chips for driver assistance systems. In addition to this, other millimeter-wave components will be covered, including radio chips operating between 30 and 300 GHz for mobile phones or GPS navigation.
