August 14, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — TDK Corporation has expanded its ultra-low clamping voltage TVS diode range with three new models in the SD0201 series, designed for compact electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection in high-speed consumer electronics interfaces such as USB Type-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt.

The new diodes come in a 0201 chip-scale package (0.58 × 0.28 × 0.15 mm), making them suitable for space-constrained designs in smartphones, laptops, tablets, wearables, and network communication devices. With working voltages of ±1 V, ±2 V, and ±3.6 V, they comply with IEC 61000-4-2 standards, delivering ESD robustness up to ±15 kV and surge current handling of up to 7 A.

The lineup includes:

SD0201SL-S1-ULC101 (B74121U1036M060): ±3.6 V, 0.65 pF capacitance

SD0201-S2-ULC105 (B74121U1020M060): ±2 V, 0.7 pF capacitance

SD0201SL-S1-ULC104 (B74121U2010M060): ±1 V, 0.15 pF capacitance

Featuring a symmetrical design for bidirectional protection, the devices simplify PCB routing, minimize leakage current, and achieve dynamic resistance as low as 0.16 Ω. An LTspice model library is also available for SEED-based simulations.

Industry background
With the rise of AI-powered devices, 5G communication systems, and data center interconnects, maintaining signal integrity in high-speed I/O interfaces has become increasingly critical. TVS diodes are expected to see expanded use in AI server GPU links, edge computing systems, and high-speed data transmission networks. Low parasitic capacitance and low clamping voltage are key to ensuring both performance stability and energy efficiency, making advancements in such devices strategically important for the next generation of high-performance computing and the broader semiconductor supply chain.

TDK said the series addresses the growing demand for reliable, compact circuit protection in both current and next-generation high-speed interfaces, supporting enhanced durability and performance in consumer electronics and high-performance computing systems.
