Sony today released a new stacked CMOS, the IMX586, for smartphone platforms. The IMX586 has 48 million effective pixels and a resolution of 8000x6000, the highest in the industry. Other specifications, the sensor 1/2 inch, the unit pixel 0.8μm is also the world's first. For video recording, the IM586 supports up to 4K 90FPS, and slow-motion tracking frames can go up to 720P 480FPS.

According to Sony, the IMX586's pixel arrangement uses a Quad Bayer array, which can be used with four pixels in a dark environment (equivalent to 12 million pixels) to reduce noise and increase brightness.

It is reported that the public price of IMX586 is 3,000 yen, and will start shipping in September.
