Littelfuse unveils foldback TVS diode series for advanced DC power protection

July 30, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Littelfuse has introduced its latest surface-mount transient voltage suppressor series—5.0SMDJ-FB—designed to address increasingly complex transient protection requirements in high-performance DC power systems. Engineered for applications such as PoE, AI servers, industrial power distribution, and ICT power supplies, the series is built on Littelfuse’s proprietary foldback clamping technology, enabling up to 15% lower clamping voltage compared to traditional designs.

As power supply designs adopt next-gen DC/DC converters with tighter voltage tolerances, the demand for ultra-reliable surge protection grows. The 5.0SMDJ-FB series offers a 5000W peak pulse power rating and ensures Breakdown Voltage (VBR) always remains above Reverse Standoff Voltage (VR), preserving DC line stability during transient events.

“With the growing sensitivity of downstream components in high-efficiency systems, the 5.0SMDJ-FB gives designers a reliable way to guard against surges without overdesigning the entire circuit,” said Jenny Chen, Product Manager at Littelfuse. “It provides a key layer of protection for high-reliability platforms.”

The new series is footprint-compatible with legacy DO-214AB (SMC) packages, allowing straightforward migration in existing designs. Its foldback mechanism delivers faster response and improved suppression for EFT, ESD, and surge events—critical in systems facing fluctuating grid and load conditions.

The diodes are now shipping in tape and reel format (3,000 pcs/reel) and are available now. Additional information is available on the 5.0SMDJ-FB Series product page.
