Samsung boosts GDDR6 output for Tesla as auto memory demand rises

April 24, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Samsung Electronics has increased production of GDDR6 memory chips to meet rising demand from Tesla, as in-vehicle computing continues to drive higher memory usage in the automotive sector.

The company began adjusting output in April, focusing on 8GB GDDR6 DRAM. Monthly supply has risen to about three times the average level seen in the first quarter, according to supply chain sources.

Production has been prioritized at Samsung’s Hwaseong facility in South Korea, where capacity has been shifted to support Tesla programs. The memory is used in infotainment systems and autonomous driving platforms, both of which require stable and high-speed data processing.

The move comes at a time when much of the memory industry is focusing on high-bandwidth products such as HBM for AI servers. Samsung’s decision to expand standard DRAM supply for a specific automotive customer highlights the importance of this partnership.

The two companies have already built closer ties through a long-term semiconductor supply agreement signed last year, covering both memory and custom chips. Samsung is also expected to produce advanced AI chips for Tesla at its U.S. facility starting in 2026.

Across the market, demand from AI and data centers has tightened memory supply since last year, pushing DRAM prices higher. In the automotive segment, securing supply has become more critical, as vehicles rely more on computing power.
