April 22, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Microchip Technology has introduced new microcontroller families that combine programmable logic with MCU functions, aiming to improve timing control in applications such as motor drives, industrial systems and automotive electronics.
The new PIC16F13276 and PIC18-Q35 devices use a configurable logic block (CLB) that allows engineers to move key logic functions from software into hardware. This helps reduce delays and makes system behavior more predictable, especially in designs where timing is critical.
In many systems today, developers rely on software or external programmable logic devices to handle complex tasks. This can increase power use and add design complexity. By integrating these functions into a single chip, the new MCUs can help reduce component count and simplify system design.
The devices also support automatic loading of logic settings at power-up or reset. This allows the logic to start running without waiting for the CPU, which is important for systems that require stable startup behavior.
The PIC16F13276 family includes 32 logic elements, while the PIC18-Q35 family offers up to 128. This gives designers more flexibility to handle parallel tasks within one device, replacing traditional multi-chip solutions.
The new MCUs are compatible with existing PIC16 and PIC18 designs, making it easier for users to upgrade without a full redesign. They also include features to help protect against unauthorized access.
PIC16F13276 MCUs are available starting at $0.32 at volume and the PIC18‑Q35 devices are available starting at $0.62 at volume. For more information, please visit PIC16F13276 and PIC18-Q35.
