February 27, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor division secured Apple’s quick acceptance of a sharply higher memory price proposal, in a sign that mobile DRAM supply is tightening, according to industry sources.
People familiar with the talks said Samsung’s Device Solutions (DS) unit had planned to raise prices to Apple by about 60%. In the opening round, however, it quoted roughly double the previous level to create room for negotiation. Apple agreed to the terms earlier than expected.
The move underscores intensifying competition among smartphone makers to secure LPDDR5X supply for upcoming flagship models.
Samsung has also adjusted its internal supply approach. The DS unit is shifting away from a long-term supply agreement with the company’s Mobile eXperience (MX) division and moving to quarterly pricing that more closely tracks market conditions.
For early production of the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung’s MX unit plans to split LPDDR5X sourcing between its DS division and Micron Technology to reduce supply risk.
