Littelfuse launches low-power TMR magnetic switches for battery devices

January 21, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Littelfuse has introduced two omnipolar magnetic switches, the LF21173TMR and LF21177TMR, expanding its portfolio of magnetic sensing devices aimed at low-power semiconductor applications.

The new switches combine tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) technology with CMOS circuitry in a compact LGA4 package. Designed to operate across a wide supply range of 1.8V to 5.5V, the devices support multiple magnetic thresholds, allowing greater flexibility in system design.

Compared with conventional Hall-effect switches, TMR-based devices sense changes in resistance rather than Hall voltage, enabling reliable signal output at much lower current levels. This approach helps reduce overall power consumption while maintaining stable performance over temperature, making the switches suitable for energy-constrained systems.

The LF21173TMR and LF21177TMR offer magnetic sensitivity in the range of roughly 9 to 30 gauss and feature fast response times. Their omnipolar operation allows detection of both north and south magnetic poles, simplifying magnet placement and mechanical design.

Target applications include smart gas and water meters, electronic locks, portable medical devices and industrial control systems, where compact size, low power draw and consistent magnetic sensing are key requirements.
