Nexperia China starts small-scale production of 12-inch bipolar discrete devices

March 10, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Nexperia China said it has started small-scale production of bipolar discrete devices using a 12-inch wafer platform, marking progress in the company’s power semiconductor manufacturing technology.

The company said the project is based on an internally developed 12-inch process platform, where chip design and manufacturing steps were adjusted for larger wafers instead of simply moving existing products from 8-inch production lines.

Using a 12-inch wafer can significantly increase the number of chips produced on a single wafer compared with traditional 8-inch processes, helping improve production efficiency and lower unit costs.

Based on the new platform, Nexperia China has also brought Schottky rectifiers into production and obtained AEC-Q101 automotive qualification, allowing the devices to be used in automotive electronics.

The rectifiers use a flat-lead surface-mount package and clip-bonding technology to support higher power handling and reliability. The devices offer low forward voltage, low reverse recovery charge and low leakage current, making them suitable for DC-DC converters, LED lighting, switching power supplies and protection circuits.

The company also said it has successfully tested ESD protection devices on the 12-inch platform. These devices are designed to protect signal lines from electrostatic discharge, surge current and short circuits, with applications in smartphones and portable electronics.
