September 26, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Renesas Electronics on Thursday introduced its RA8T2 microcontroller group, designed to deliver high-speed and precise motor control for industrial equipment, robotics and advanced automation systems.

The RA8T2 devices are powered by a 1 GHz Arm Cortex-M85 core, with an optional Cortex-M33 coprocessor, enabling both real-time motor control and additional functions such as communications on a single chip. The devices integrate up to 1MB of high-speed MRAM and tightly coupled memory to support machine learning and predictive maintenance features that can reduce downtime.

Renesas said the MCUs also provide extensive connectivity, including dual Gigabit Ethernet MACs with DMA, EtherCAT slave support, CAN FD and USB. These features are aimed at meeting the demand for high-speed synchronization in factory automation networks.

For motor applications, the RA8T2 offers advanced timers supporting PWM up to 300 MHz, high-resolution 16-bit ADCs for simultaneous three-phase current sampling, and safety features such as rapid shutdown during overcurrent events. These functions allow stable, efficient and safe control for servos and inverters.

The new devices are now available with Renesas’ Flexible Software Package (FSP) and motor control development kit. Renesas said customers can combine RA8T2 with other products from its portfolio in “Winning Combinations,” such as unmanned aerial vehicle systems, to accelerate time-to-market.
