July 10, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Renesas Electronics Corporation, a global leader in embedded semiconductor solutions, has announced the RA2T1 group of microcontrollers, designed specifically for single-motor systems including fans, power tools, vacuum cleaners, and other compact appliances. Built on the Arm® Cortex®-M23 core, the new devices offer precise control, high safety, and robust performance in a compact footprint.
The RA2T1 integrates a 3-channel Sample and Hold (S&H) feature that captures all three phases of BLDC motor current simultaneously, improving control accuracy over conventional sequential sampling methods. It also supports complementary PWM with automatic dead-time insertion and asymmetric waveform generation—critical functions for efficient inverter drive implementation.
Key safety features include a high-speed comparator and Port Output Enable function, which together enable rapid PWM output shutdown in overcurrent conditions. Additional protections include SRAM parity check, ADC self-diagnostics, illegal memory access detection, and clock integrity monitoring.
The MCU operates from 1.6V to 5.5V and across a wide temperature range from -40°C to 125°C. Package options include LQFP and QFN variants as small as 4mm x 4mm, making the RA2T1 ideal for space-constrained motor control systems. The group is fully supported by Renesas’ Flexible Software Package (FSP), which enables seamless integration of middleware, RTOS, AI modules, motor control algorithms, and cloud connectivity. This platform allows reuse of legacy code and simplifies design migration across the RA MCU family.
