May 23, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Cirrus Logic and Compal Electronics have announced a strategic partnership to apply artificial intelligence to laptop audio design, targeting long-standing challenges with mechanical distortion and speaker rattle. The project marks Cirrus Logic’s first AI audio solution designed for the PC market, with working prototypes scheduled to debut at Computex 2025 in Taipei.

This AI-enhanced audio solution combines Cirrus Logic’s digital signal processing capabilities with Compal’s high-volume manufacturing expertise. The system includes algorithms that identify and mitigate mechanical issues during production, ensuring consistent sound quality across laptop models.

Historically, PC manufacturers have had to compromise on sound performance, limiting volume or bass to reduce the risk of distortion. The new approach allows OEMs to deliver high-performance audio without such trade-offs. Cirrus Logic’s AI-driven rattle limiter provides a more sophisticated method of addressing audio degradation at its source.

For Compal, which produces laptops for global brands, this collaboration brings the potential to streamline quality control processes and improve production consistency—factors that directly impact end-user satisfaction and return rates.

Carl Alberty, EVP of Cirrus Logic’s Mixed-Signal Products, emphasized the broader implications: “Our partnership with Compal moves AI audio processing into real-world deployment, reducing the gap between innovation and mass-market application.”

As AI integration becomes more central to semiconductor-driven features in consumer electronics, this initiative signals a new direction for laptop audio development—linking silicon innovation with factory-level execution.
