March 14, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Infineon Technologies AG has emerged as the new market leader in the global microcontroller industry, surpassing its competitors to claim the top position. According to a recent report by Omdia, Infineon’s market share grew to 21.3% in 2024, up from 17.8% in 2023, marking a significant year-over-year gain of 3.5 percentage points—the largest increase among all industry players. This achievement marks the first time Infineon has led the global microcontroller market.

Industry experts attribute Infineon’s success to its comprehensive product portfolio, advanced software solutions, and user-friendly development tools. Andreas Urschitz, Infineon’s Chief Marketing Officer and Management Board Member, highlighted the company’s strategic growth, stating, “Our ability to expand our market share reflects our commitment to delivering high-performance, efficient system solutions that drive decarbonization and digitalization.”

Infineon has consistently outpaced market growth over the years. Since 2015, the company’s microcontroller business has expanded at an average annual rate of 13.0%, compared to the overall market’s 4.0% growth per year. In 2023, Infineon secured the top position in the automotive microcontroller segment, and in 2024, it extended its leadership to the entire microcontroller industry across all end markets. Omdia estimates that the total market value of global microcontroller sales in 2024 was $22.4 billion, a decline from $28.0 billion in 2023.

Microcontrollers play a crucial role in modern technology, acting as the intelligence behind a wide range of applications—from automotive systems that enhance vehicle safety and efficiency to IoT devices that reshape daily life and industrial machinery that boosts productivity. Infineon’s product lineup, including AURIX™, TRAVEO™, PSOC™, XMC™, and security microcontrollers, continues to cater to these evolving industry needs.

As the demand for smarter, more efficient electronic systems continues to grow, Infineon’s leadership in the microcontroller market positions the company at the forefront of innovation in both digitalization and sustainability.
