May 07, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the VCNL36758, a new high-sensitivity proximity sensor designed for smart home, industrial and office automation systems. The device combines an IR emitter, photodiode, amplifiers and a 12-bit ADC inside a compact surface-mount package and supports detection distances up to 600 mm.
The company said the new sensor is around 65% smaller than previous-generation designs, helping engineers add longer-range proximity sensing in space-limited products. The compact structure also gives more flexibility for small electronic devices that require integrated sensing functions.
The VCNL36758 includes a built-in adjustable IR emitter driver, allowing developers to balance sensing distance and power use based on system requirements. Vishay also added background light cancellation technology to improve sensing accuracy under strong ambient light conditions.
The sensor targets a wide range of applications including printers, copiers, tablets, home appliances, service robots and smart lighting systems. It can also be used for automatic restroom equipment and parking space monitoring systems.
To reduce system power consumption, the device supports programmable interrupt functions and one-time measurement operation modes. Vishay said the sensor also uses intelligent crosstalk cancellation and adjustable persistence settings to reduce false triggering and improve response speed.
The VCNL36758 uses a 940 nm IR emitter without visible red light output and supports operating temperatures from -40°C to +85°C. The sensor is offered in a lead-free 10-pin package and complies with RoHS, halogen-free and Vishay Green standards.
Samples and production quantities of the VCNL36758 are available now, with lead times of 16 weeks. For more information, please visit https://www.vishay.com/en/product/80555/.
