February 3, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Silicon Labs has launched the BG22L and BG24L System-on-Chips (SoCs) for Bluetooth® Low Energy (LE) applications. These "Lite" devices are optimized for common uses like asset tracking and small appliances.

The BG22L is designed for high-volume, low-cost, and low-power applications, offering a balance of security, processing power, and connectivity. The BG24L supports AI/ML applications and Bluetooth Channel Sounding, making it ideal for asset tracking and geofencing in crowded environments like warehouses and apartment buildings.

“We understand that customers need to keep up with IoT demands while managing costs,” said Ross Sabolcik, Senior VP at Silicon Labs. “The BG22L and BG24L offer industry-leading Bluetooth features and robust IoT capabilities, including high RF sensitivity, low power, and strong security.”

Bluetooth Channel Sounding for Precise Location Tracking
One of the key features of the BG24L is Bluetooth Channel Sounding, introduced with Bluetooth 6.0. This allows devices to measure distances with sub-meter accuracy. It can be used for locating Bluetooth-enabled items like keys or wallets with much less power than traditional location technologies. In commercial environments, it can help with inventory tracking in retail stores and warehouses.

Another application is wireless access control. Bluetooth 6.0 devices can automatically unlock doors or vehicles when they detect an authorized Bluetooth device nearby.

AI/ML-Optimized BG24L
The BG24L also includes Silicon Labs' Matrix Vector Processor (MVP) AI/ML accelerator. This provides up to 8x faster performance with just one-sixth the power of traditional processors, making it ideal for battery-powered IoT devices like sensors and predictive maintenance systems.

BG22L: Low-Cost, Low-Power Bluetooth
The BG22L is built for basic Bluetooth applications, offering low cost, low power, and high reliability. It includes ultra-low power receive mode and can run for up to 10 years on a single coin cell battery. It also supports Bluetooth 5.4 and Bluetooth Direction Finding.

Both the BG22L and BG24L are expected to be available in Q2 2025. For more information, please visit BG22L and BG24L.
