Stellantis suspends production at Rennes plant due to chip shortage

According to Reuters, automaker Stellantis said on the 22nd that its Rennes-La Janais Citroen plant in Brittany, France, will stop production on July 3 due to chip shortage.

The report further pointed out that the shutdown of the Sochaux Peugeot plant in eastern France will be extended until next weekend, also because of chip shortage.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares has previously said the chip shortage is expected to extend through the end of 2022, as the industry waits for more capacity to come online, a process that will last several years.

Stellantis said it will continue to work closely with suppliers to mitigate the impact of various supply chain issues on manufacturing.
