According to the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Micron plans to invest 800 billion yen (approximately US$7 billion) to build a new advanced DRAM factory near its factory in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, and is expected to start mass production in 2024.

The report pointed out that Micron originally planned to build the new plant in Singapore or Taiwan region, but after considering supply chain security and other factors, it finally chose Hiroshima County, Japan.

As the world's third largest DRAM manufacturer, Micron announced in June this year that it has begun mass production of the fourth-generation 10nm process DRAM. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said in the same month that he would expand investment and cooperate with Japanese equipment and material factories, especially in the development of fifth-generation DRAM technology.
