Samsung announced yesterday the industry's first integrated power management ICs, the MUA01 and MUB01, for TWS earbuds.

TWS earbuds can provide users with more freedom of movement and daily range of activities because there is no connection cable. However, battery life and shape pose new challenges for TWS earbuds. The MUA01 and MUB01 chips are designed for charging boxes and earbuds respectively, which can optimize TWS devices. Samsung integrates several internal technologies of the company to integrate up to 10 discrete components into one component, including switching chargers and discharge circuits, so that the two chips occupy less than half of the space compared to previous alternatives The compact solution can save more space, extend the battery life of the TWS earbuds, and make it more flexible and compact..

It is worth mentioning that MUA01 is also the industry's first solution that supports both wireless and wired charging on one chip. It supports Qi 1.2.4, the latest standard from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), and integrates a high-efficiency switching charger to improve wired charging efficiency. In addition, the MUA01 comes with a microcontroller unit and embedded Flash, and its firmware can be modified to support other applications.

Shin Dong-ho, senior vice president of system integrated circuit marketing at Samsung Electronics, said: "TWS earbuds provide users with a better listening experience and rapidly expand the mobile accessories market, creating new opportunities for device manufacturers. The chips will allow manufacturers more flexibility in designing new applications. In addition, MUA01 and MUB01 are currently in mass production and will be assembled in Samsung’s latest headset, the Galaxy Buds +.
