March 22, 2019

Recently, Infineon exhibited its new OptiMOS 6 series at APEC 2019. The new 40v MOSFET is based on Infineon's thin wafer technology, which has significant performance advantages and covers a wide voltage range. This technology is designed for synchronous rectification in switch mode power applications, including servers, personal computers and wireless chargers.

Compared to the previous generation, the state resistance of the new OptiMOS 6 40V MOSFET is reduced by 30%. In addition, Infineon's new OptiMOS technology offers higher switching performance and can be maintained at various power outputs. According to Infineon, this helps reduce the system cost of personal computers, chargers and other products.

Infineon's market share in the global power MOSFET market is more than 25%, and the demand for its devices is strong. These products are used in a variety of electronic devices, including consumer electronics, industrial electronics and automotive electronics. In response to the current shortage of discrete power devices including MOSFETs, Infineon said it is working to overcome this problem and will spend $1.9 billion in 2024 to drive power semiconductor production for 300mm thin wafers.
