According to Nikkei Asia, the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ) reported on the 11th that the strong demand for foundry, logic IC and memory chips has driven the sales of semiconductor equipment to continue to rise. Therefore, the sales forecast of Japanese chip manufacturing equipment for 2021 (April 2021 to March 2022) has been revised up to 3263.1 billion yen.

The report pointed out that the global market share of Japanese chip manufacturing equipment reached 30%, second only to the United States. SEAJ said that it took 22 years (1955-2017) for the annual sales of Japanese chip manufacturing equipment to increase from 1,000 billion yen to 2,000 billion yen, and it took only 4 years to increase from 2,000 billion yen to 3,000 billion yen.

SEAJ further stated that from next year, demand for data centers and 5G products will usher in explosive growth. Therefore, the sales forecast of Japanese chip manufacturing equipment in 2022 is revised up to 3,429.5 billion yen, an increase of 5.1% over this year, and sales in 2023 are revised up to 35,975, an increase of 4.9% over the next year.
