April 9, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — TDK Corporation has introduced the Micronas HAL/HAR 35xy series, a new family of cost-optimized 2D Hall-effect position sensors designed for automotive and industrial applications. Engineered for high stray-field robustness and ISO 26262 functional safety compliance, the new sensors support a broad range of applications such as accelerator and brake pedals, steering angle sensing, throttle and valve positions, transmission detection, and chassis height monitoring.

Building on the performance foundation of the HAL/HAR 39xy line, the 35xy family targets mainstream use cases, offering essential features with reduced design complexity while maintaining high accuracy and safety. Sample availability has begun, with mass production scheduled for June 2025.

The initial models include the HAL 3550 (single-die) and HAR 3550 (dual-die with redundancy), both supporting linear analog output with wire-break detection, as well as configurable PWM and SENT digital interfaces. The SENT interface conforms to SAE J2716 rev. 4, and the PWM output is adjustable between 0.1 kHz and 2 kHz. An optional open-drain switch output enables on/off logic control based on sensor position, temperature, or magnetic field strength.

Capable of full 360° angular and linear position measurement, the sensors feature a segmentable range (90°, 120°, 180°), ideal for chassis applications. Using an array of vertical and horizontal Hall plates, the devices suppress external magnetic stray fields and support off-axis measurement with a simple two-pole ferrite magnet.

On-chip signal processing calculates position angles, converting field data into analog or digital outputs. Key parameters such as gain, offset, and reference position are programmable via non-volatile memory. The HAL/HAR 35xy operates across –40°C to 150°C, with the HAL 3550 housed in a SOIC8 package and the HAR 3550 in a TSSOP16.
