ROHM launches ultra-low capacitance ESD diodes for high-speed AI and automotive interfaces

May 26, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — ROHM has introduced its new RESDxVx series of electro-static discharge (ESD) protection diodes designed for high-speed data communication interfaces requiring both ultra-low capacitance and strong IC protection performance.

The company said the new devices achieve industry-leading low dynamic resistance while maintaining extremely low capacitance, addressing growing demand for signal integrity protection in AI servers, automotive systems and next-generation communication infrastructure.

As high-speed interfaces continue expanding beyond 10 Gbps, minimizing parasitic capacitance has become increasingly important because even small capacitance values can distort signal waveforms and degrade communication quality.

ROHM noted that conventional ESD protection devices often face a trade-off between low capacitance and low dynamic resistance. The RESDxVx series was developed to overcome this limitation.

The new devices provide terminal capacitance as low as 0.24 pF for bidirectional models and 0.48 pF for unidirectional versions, while dynamic resistance has been reduced to 0.28 Ω. According to ROHM, the lower resistance enables approximately 40% lower clamping voltage compared with conventional products, improving protection for sensitive high-speed ICs.

The series targets a broad range of high-speed interfaces including USB4, USB 3.x, Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, DisplayPort, PCI Express, LVDS, MIPI D-PHY/C-PHY and automotive Ethernet.

ROHM said the products are suitable for AI servers, data centers, optical transceivers, 5G/6G base stations, gaming systems, smartphones and high-performance computing equipment.

Automotive-qualified versions housed in DFN1006-2W packages, including the RESDxVxBASAFH and RESDxVxUASAFH, are AEC-Q101 certified for applications such as ADAS cameras, autonomous driving systems, automotive ECUs and in-vehicle SerDes communication platforms.

The RESDxVx series is available now with sample pricing starting at approximately $0.44 per unit excluding tax. For more information, please visit RESDxVx series
