April 17, 2024 /SemiMedia/ -- According to reports, Japanese chipmaker Rapidus has set up a subsidiary, Rapidus Design Solutions, in the heart of California's Silicon Valley, aiming to attract artificial intelligence (AI) companies as customers.

Rapidus Design Solutions is located in Santa Clara, home to well-known chip companies Nvidia and Intel.

Rapidus President Atsuyoshi Koike announced the establishment of Rapidus Design Solutions with IBM Semiconductor General Manager Mukesh Khare and said that IBM and Rapidus are collaborating to develop technology.

"Initially, customers from Silicon Valley will account for a considerable share. It will be crucial to participate in development with startups," Atsuyoshi Koike said.

Rapidus names former AMD and IBM marketing executive Henri Richard as president of Rapidus Design Solutions.
