September 2, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Qualcomm has begun implementing double-digit price increases on certain chip products from September 1, following a customer notice issued in July stating that products shipped after the effective date would be subject to new pricing.
The company said rising supplier costs had reached a level it could no longer fully absorb. CEO Cristiano Amon said in July that Qualcomm was passing through significant cost increases across its supply chain, with final pricing to be negotiated individually with customers. The September price adjustment had already been communicated to customers in July, giving device manufacturers several weeks to prepare for the new pricing.
The adjustment is expected to affect multiple product lines rather than a single customer or platform. Qualcomm supplies Snapdragon processors, modems and related chips to Samsung and other major smartphone manufacturers, while rising memory and component costs are also increasing the overall bill of materials for handset makers.
At the same time, Qualcomm's business with Apple continues to decline as Apple expands the use of its internally developed cellular modems. Qualcomm said in July that Apple-related revenue is now expected to fall faster than previously anticipated, although Apple has not yet completely eliminated its use of Qualcomm modem technology.
Amon said the September pricing adjustment is intended to help Qualcomm return margins toward historical levels. The company is also accelerating its expansion into automotive, PCs, edge AI and data centers as it reduces its dependence on the smartphone market.
The latest increase shows that higher manufacturing and component costs are continuing to move downstream from semiconductor suppliers to chip designers and device manufacturers.
