July 16, 2026 / SemiMedia / — South Korean prosecutors have raided the local offices of Montage Technology, Renesas Electronics and Rambus as part of an investigation into alleged price fixing involving semiconductor components supplied to major memory manufacturers.
The Fair Trade Investigation Department of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office carried out search and seizure operations on July 15 on suspicion that the three companies violated South Korea’s Fair Trade Act. Prosecutors reportedly secured mobile phones and other materials belonging to company personnel during the raids.
Montage Technology, Japan’s Renesas Electronics and U.S.-based Rambus are major suppliers of memory interface chips used by semiconductor manufacturers including Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and Micron. Authorities suspect the companies coordinated prices while supplying components to Samsung Electronics and other customers.
Memory interface chips support high-speed data transmission and signal management between processors, memory controllers and DRAM modules. Components such as registered clock drivers and data buffers are particularly important in DDR5 RDIMMs and LRDIMMs used in enterprise servers, cloud infrastructure and AI computing systems.
A representative from Montage Technology’s board office told media on July 16 that the company was assessing the situation. The representative said Montage has consistently operated in compliance with applicable regulations, would cooperate with the investigation and was continuing normal operations.
Founded in 2004, Montage Technology is a fabless semiconductor company that develops interconnect solutions for cloud computing and AI infrastructure. Its portfolio includes memory interface chips, PCIe Retimers, memory module supporting chips and Jintide server platforms.
South Korean prosecutors have not disclosed the potential value of the alleged conduct or announced any findings. The investigation remains ongoing, and no final determination of wrongdoing has been made.
