August 13, 2026 / SemiMedia / — Infineon Technologies has introduced the SPOC Wire Guard BTS80009 SWPx 1ES, a highly integrated 12 V automotive eFuse with an SPI interface for software-defined vehicles and new electrical and electronic architectures.
The BTS80009 combines a protected high-side switch with I²t wire protection, current sensing and diagnostic functions. It can isolate load faults within microseconds, allowing vehicle designers to reduce the wire overdimensioning commonly required with conventional melting fuses.
Protection thresholds and operating parameters can be configured through software. This allows the same hardware platform to support different vehicle models and load requirements, while protection settings can be adjusted during the vehicle lifecycle.
The device provides real-time status information, pre-warning indicators and fault diagnostics. A dedicated idle mode draws only a few microamps for permanently powered loads while keeping the protection functions active.
Its 24-bit SPI interface supports daisy-chain operation, reducing the number of microcontroller I/O connections required in power-distribution systems. Integrated non-volatile memory stores an application-specific safe-state configuration.
The BTS80009 is designed for ADAS and fail-operational systems from Level 2++ through Level 5. It is offered as a Safety Element out of Context for ISO 26262 systems up to ASIL-D.
The eFuse can respond autonomously when a load fault causes the supply voltage to drop. Its single-channel architecture also limits the risk of a fault affecting other power outputs.
Infineon offers the BTS80009 SWPx 1ES in A, I, P and F variants with different feature sets. The device supports currents up to 34.5 A and can replace circuits built from a gate-driver IC, MOSFET and shunt resistor, reducing component count and PCB area.
The BTS80009 SWPx 1ES is now in production. Three additional on-resistance variants are scheduled for release by the end of 2026.
