Diodes launches 80V AEC-Q100 ideal diode controllers for next-gen automotive power systems

August 5, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD) has introduced two automotive-grade 80V ideal diode controllers, the AP74502Q and AP74502HQ, offering enhanced protection against reverse polarity and voltage transients in evolving automotive power systems. The devices target applications such as ADAS, body control modules, infotainment, exterior lighting, and USB charging ports.

The controllers are designed to manage reverse polarity efficiently and disconnect loads during overvoltage or undervoltage events. With an operating range up to ±80V, they support 12V, 24V, and emerging 48V systems used in hybrid and fully electric vehicles.

The industry's shift toward 48V architectures is driving new power demands for features like electric turbocharging and regenerative braking. These higher-voltage systems require components that can tolerate more severe overvoltage stress, and Diodes' ±80V-rated controllers address this need effectively.

Unlike conventional ideal diodes that block reverse current, the AP74502 series supports energy feedback to the input and can be configured as surge stoppers to handle load dump transients.

Both devices operate from input voltages as low as 3.2V, ensuring reliable performance during cold crank conditions. Quiescent current is minimized to 62µA during operation and just 1µA in shutdown mode, reducing overall power consumption.

The AP74502Q features a soft-start mechanism with a typical gate source current of 60μA, helping limit inrush current. The AP74502HQ offers a stronger 11mA gate drive, enabling fast MOSFET activation within 1µs for more dynamic applications.

Available in SOT28 packages, both products operate across -40°C to +125°C and are priced at $0.27 each in 1,000-unit quantities. For more information, please visit AP74502Q and AP74502HQ.
