NXP Semiconductors has officially launched the SR100T, a secure precision ranging chipset that provides tailored, high-precision positioning performance for the next generation of UWB-enabled mobile terminals.

With the SR100T, mobile terminals will be able to communicate with smart doors, entrances and cars, turning them on once they are close. Smart luminaires, smart speakers and any other connected device with UWB sensing capabilities can sense the movement of users in different rooms, and smart connected technologies will seamlessly integrate into people's lives.

NXP's expertise in connectivity, mobile ecosystems and proven security architectures are widely used in many popular mobile devices equipped with NFC and SE hardware, and the new chipset SR100T with UWB technology made a further breakthrough on this basis. The new UWB feature brings new relative positioning connectivity to a wide range of indoor and outdoor devices with virtually no interference. In addition, UWB technology delivers outstanding accuracy even in crowded, multi-channel signal environments where walls, people and other obstacles are numerous. End users can experience the functionality and connectivity that the solution provides without having to take the mobile device out of their pockets. The technology also features Angle of arrival (AoA) technology, which accurately indicates the direction of the signal and further improves accuracy.

In addition, the SR100T extends the NXP mobile wallet solution to provide spatial awareness for new non-inductive access applications.

Rafael Sotomayor, senior vice president of NXP's mobile business, said: "UWB technology is the most anticipated development in the connection field, and NXP is the first to bring a seamless, interoperable experience through a mobile terminal integration solution. Today, NXP's mobile solutions have benefited millions of consumers worldwide. The SR100T is a major advancement in our secure Internet products and complements existing standards such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. This step greatly helps developers provide a ubiquitous UWB experience to users around the world.”
