April 3, 2019

According to data released by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), global semiconductor sales in February fell 7.3% from $35.47 billion in January to $32.86 billion. Compared with the same period in 2018, global semiconductor sales in February were shrinking by 10.6%.

From a regional perspective, US semiconductor sales in February were US$6.37 billion, down 12.9% from the previous month and down 22.9% from the same period in 2018. The Japanese region fell 5.3% from January and 5.9% from the same period in 2018; sales in Europe fell 2.3%; sales in China fell 7.8% month-on-month; sales in Asia Pacific fell 5.1%.

John Neuffer, president and chief executive of SIA, said that global semiconductor sales experienced a wide-ranging decline in February, and that all major projects have shrunk in terms of annual ratios and monthly ratios. Sales in all major regional markets around the world are on a downward trend, mainly due to the cooling period after the global sector has achieved record revenues in the past three years. In addition, some insiders believe that the slowdown in technological innovation is also one of the reasons for the decline in semiconductor demand.
